If You Were Asked to Provide More Information
Sometimes the judge will ask a claimant or county to provide more information. The judge may make this request at the hearing or after the hearing. When this happens, the "record" for this hearing is kept open. The judge will not issue your decision while the record is open.
If the judge asked you to provide more information, be sure to provide it as soon as possible. Follow the judge’s instructions about how to provide the information. If the judge gave you an envelope for mailing the information, it is a good idea to use it. If the judge asked you to mail or give the information to the county, be sure to do so.
If you cannot send the information by the deadline set by the judge, you may make a toll-free call to 1-800-952-5253 (TDD 1-800-952-8349) to ask for more time. After the judge has received your message, you will receive a phone call or a letter telling you if your request was granted or not.
If the judge asked the county to provide more information and the county provides it, you will be sent a copy of this information. You may respond to the county’s information by sending a letter to the judge. Send your letter to the address given you by the judge. If you do not have the judge’s address, you may send your letter to State Hearings Division, 744 P Street, MS 19-37, Sacramento, CA 95814. Be sure to include the judge’s name and your hearing number (look for this number on the county’s Position Statement.
