Sometimes a judge cannot finish your hearing on the same day your hearing started. This may happen because your interpreter had to leave, an important witness was not available, someone became ill, or the hearing was not finished at the end of the business day. When this happens, the judge will "continue" your hearing to another day.
The judge will tell you the date, time, and location for your continued hearing either at your first hearing and/or in a letter. Be sure to go to your continued hearing. If you cannot attend, make sure you call the judge’s office or 1-800-743-8525 (Voice/TDD) before the date of the continued hearing.
Until the continued hearing is heard, the "record" for your hearing will be kept open. The judge will not issue your decision while the record is open.
