Repatriation

Repatriation assistance provides temporary assistance to United States (U.S.) citizens and their dependents that are identified by the U.S. Department of State as needing to return from a foreign country to the U.S. If an American citizen in a foreign country becomes ill, is without funds, or needs to be returned to the U.S. because of a threatening situation in a foreign country, necessary services and loans are provided through the Repatriation Program. For situations involving the evacuation of a group of Americans from a foreign country, federal Department of Health and Human Services may be requested to establish reception sites as well as provide individual assistance. The Administration for Children and Families, Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) operates both individual and group repatriation programs through agreements with State agencies. Below are links to more detailed information on the Repatriation Program. If you have questions regarding the State's role in the Repatriation Program, please contact the Refugee Programs Bureau (RPB) at (916) 654-4356 or RPB@dss.ca.gov.
