VEST Recruitment

Thank you for your interest in the Volunteer Emergency Services Team, "VEST"! I encourage and challenge you to pursue becoming a VEST member. While remaining at your present position as an employee of the State of California, you will be trained up to ten days a year by professionals in Disaster Operations.

In addition to various trainings, the potential to be assigned to an operation during an incident response (deploy) is always a possibility. If you deploy in support of any operation, you will ordinarily deploy for a minimum of five days and a maximum of fifteen days, depending on the mission. Sometimes VEST members are asked to deploy in a matter of hours of first notification to somewhere in the State. Usually, you will get sufficient notice to organize your work and personal lives before deployment.

VEST is an opportunity for State employees to assist the California public in times of disasters and Government-directed recovery operations. If your work schedule and daily routine permit, please submit your application to:

Department of Social Services
Disaster & Client Services Bureau
Attn: VEST Recruitment
744 P Street MS 6-143
Sacramento, CA 95814

Please use the Standard State Application (STD 678) for applying. You may include a cover letter or resume listing related qualifications and/or experiences. If you are selected, we will send you further information.

Again, thank you and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
