Job Examination Information
Welcome to the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) examination information section. CDSS examination information consists of type of examination, bulletin release dates, and final filing dates.
CDSS examination announcements are available at the State Personnel Board (SPB) in Sacramento, local Employment Development Department (EDD) offices, and CDSS offices. Current examination information can be accessed via the CDSS Exam Information Line, (916) 657-1696. Examination announcements may also be obtained by contacting CDSS Personnel Bureau at (916) 657-1762 or CALNET 8-437-1762.
Applications for all examinations must be submitted on the State Examination Application (Form STD 678). Applications may be obtained at the California Department of Social Services, the State Personnel Board, at your local employment office and via the Internet at www.spb.ca.gov/ address. Open Examinations: Competition is open to any individual who meets the education an/or experience required for entrance into the examination. Applications are not accepted on a promotional basis.
Promotional Examinations: Competition is limited to State Employees only. Applicants must have a permanent civil service appointment with the department listed on the examination announcement as of the final filing date in order to apply for the examination. In certain situations, other employees (i.e., former department employees or current employees on Temporary Authorization Appointments, Training and Development Assignments and Limited Term Appointments) may be allowed to compete in CDSS examinations under the provisions of Rules 234, 235, and 235.2.
