AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR DEAF CHILDREN
Organization providing information, encouragement, and support to families with children who are deaf or hard of hearing.

AMERICAN TINNITUS ASSOCIATION
Organization that provides information about tinnitus, referrals to local hearing professionals, and support groups (nationwide), funds scientific research related to tinnitus, and conducts workshops for professionals.

ASSOCIATION OF LATE-DEAFENED ADULTS (ALDA)

CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF THE DEAF
Consumer organization advocating equal access by individuals in the areas of education, employment, telecommunications and rehabilitation, who are deaf and hard of hearing. Certifies interpreters. Local chapters are located statewide.

State Board of Guide Dogs State government agency that issues licenses to Guide Dog Schools and Instructors.

CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Education Equity, Access, and Support Branch State Special Schools and Services Division Deaf and Hard of Hearing Unit State government agency whose purpose is to reform programs and services for students who are deaf and hard of hearing in California.

CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF REHABILITATION (DOR)
Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Section State government agency whose Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Section provides additional expertise and support to consumers and rehabilitation counselors in the field. Section staff develops, implements, and coordinates specialized rehabilitation programs designed to serve the unique needs of consumers with a wide range of hearing impairments. The staff participates in district service evaluations through its review of consumer cases, assists individual counselors, as requested, in effective case management, and trains the staff of the Department in improving the delivery of services to this population.

CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES (CDSS)
State government agency that administers the Assistance Dog Special Allowance (ADSA) Program and the Deaf Access Program (DAP).

Assistance Dog Special Allowance Program (ADSA)
The ADSA program provides a monthly payment to eligible persons who use a guide, signal, or service dog to help them with needs related to their physical disabilities. The allowance is to help pay the costs of food, grooming, and health care for the dogs.

Deaf Access Program (DAP)
The DAP is a state program, created in 1980, to assure that state and local government programs are routinely adapted to meet the communication needs of deaf and hard of hearing persons. The DAP contracts with a statewide network of eight private, nonprofit corporations to deliver the following mandated services: communication services, counseling, advocacy services, independent living skills instruction, job development and placement, information and referral, and community education. www.cdss.ca.gov/cdssweb/PG145.htm

CALIFORNIA EMPLOYMENT DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT (EDD)
Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program State government agency that administers the Deaf & Hard of Hearing Project in 15 EDD Job Service Offices throughout the State. Services include interpretive services, counseling, job search training, job development, job referral, and placement. Services are available in the following EDD office locations: San Diego, Riverside, San Bernardino, Santa Ana, West Covina, West Los Angeles, North Hollywood, Fresno-West, Sacramento, Roseville, Santa Rosa, San Francisco, Fremont, San Jose, Pleasant Hill, and Oakland. EDD offices are listed in your local telephone book under "State Government."

CALIFORNIA GOVERNOR'S COMMITTEE FOR EMPLOYMENT OF DISABLED PERSONS
Committee that promotes employment of persons in California who have disabilities. Services include technical assistance to employers and employees, development and dissemination of public education materials, formal recognition of outstanding contributions that increase employment opportunities, and coordination of other special programs to eliminate barriers to employment. The Committee also created and administers the California Youth Leadership Forum for students with disabilities (YLF), the Hal-Connolly Scholar-Athlete Awards Scholarship, and the Learning Disability Scholarship for college freshmen.

CALIFORNIA RELAY SERVICE (CRS)
A service enabling people who are deaf, hard of hearing, and speech disabled to use telecommunication devices for the deaf (TTY) to communicate over regular telephone lines with hearing people or people who do not use a TTY and vice versa. Individuals contact the relay service via a toll free number (711). Specially trained California Relay operators complete all calls and stay on-line to relay messages either electronically over a TTY or verbally to hearing parties. The service is available for making telephone contacts 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with no restrictions on the length, number or type of calls.

CALIFORNIA SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF, FREMONT
A comprehensive accredited school for ages 0-21 years, offering academic and vocational education. Special unit to serve children who are multi-handicapped deaf. Community and adult (deaf) education program available.

CALIFORNIA SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF, RIVERSIDE
A residential school for children ages 3-21 years, offering a complete academic and vocational program, with emphasis on language acquisition; prepares students for self-supporting and independent lives. Has a unit for students with multiple disabilities.

CALIFORNIA STATE LIBRARY
State agency that provides brief answers to questions, photocopies of printed materials (up to 20 pages), and information on borrowing books from local libraries. The State Library maintains law records, California's legislative history, extensive information on the availability of public and private grants, and other government related information.

CANINE COMPANIONS FOR INDEPENDENCE
Organization that trains and places signal dogs with individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing.

CANINE SUPPORT TEAMS
Organization that provides specially trained dogs for people with disabilities other than blindness. Trains service dogs, including "signal dogs", and places them with individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.

CENTER ON DEAFNESS-INLAND EMPIRE (CODIE)
Community service agency that promotes independence, access, and equality for people who are deaf and hard of hearing through direct services which include communication services, counseling, advocacy services, independent living skills instruction, job development and placement, information and referral, and community education. Serves clients residing in Inyo, Mono, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.

DEAF AND DISABLED TELECOMMUNICATIONS PROGRAM (DDTP)
The DDTP is a California State mandated program, under governance of the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). Under the DDTP the California Telephone Access Program (CTAP) distributes telecommunications equipment and services for individuals certified as having functional limitations of hearing, vision, mobility, speech, and/or interpretation of information.

Community service agency that promotes independence, access, and equality for people who are deaf and hard of hearing through direct services, which include communication services, counseling, advocacy services, independent living skills instruction, job development and placement, information and referral, and community education. THE EAR FOUNDATION
The goal of the EAR Foundation is to integrate persons who have a hearing loss into the mainstream of society through public awareness and medical education. The Foundation administers the Meniere's Network, a national network of patient support groups that provides people with the opportunity to share experiences and coping strategies.

HEARING LOSS ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA
Hearing Loss Association of America, formerly Self Help for Hard of Hearing People (SHHH), is an educational organization promoting awareness and information about hearing loss, communication, assistive devices, and alternative communication skills through publications, exhibits, and presentations. Local Hearing Loss Association of America chapters are located statewide.

HEARING AND SPEECH CENTER OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA
A non-profit organization which helps people who are hard of hearing and deaf, and people with speech/language disorders, to participate fully in their families, schools, workplaces, and communities. It provides a comprehensive network of services, including professional audiology, hearing aid dispensing, assistive listening devices, counseling, outreach and advocacy, speech and language therapy, and youth and community education. It strives to serve all members of the community regardless of ability to pay.

PUBLICATIONS AND INFORMATION DISSEMINATION
Gallaudet University's Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center
Responds to queries related to children who are deaf or hard of hearing ages 0-21 and performs a number of functions related to information at Gallaudet University's Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center. Collaborates with authors from within the Gallaudet community and around the nation to design, produce, and disseminate books, videotapes, periodicals, and other information to children who are deaf or hard of hearing, their families, and the professionals who serve them.
